1、 Classification according to workpiece machined surface

(1) Tools for processing various external surfaces: including turning tools, planers, milling cutters, external surface broaches and files;

(2) Hole processing tools: including drills, reamers, boring cutters, reamers and internal surface broaches;

(3) Thread processing tools: including tap, die, automatic thread cutting head, thread turning tool and thread milling tool;

(4) Gear cutting tools: including hobs, gear shapers, gear shaving cutters, bevel gear cutting tools, etc;

(5) Cutting tools: including insert circular saw blade, band saw, hacksaw, cutting lathe tool, saw blade milling cutter, etc.

2、 Classification according to cutting motion mode and corresponding blade shape

(1) General tools: such as turning tools, planers, milling cutters (excluding formed turning tools, forming planers and forming milling cutters), boring cutters, drills, reamers, reamers and saws;

(2) Forming tools: the cutting edge of this kind of tools has the same or nearly the same shape as the section of the workpiece to be processed, such as forming turning tools, forming planers, forming milling cutters, broaches, taper reamers and various thread processing tools;

(3) Generation tool: use the generation method to process the gear tooth surface or similar workpiece, such as hob, gear shaper, gear shaving cutter, bevel gear planer and bevel gear milling cutter.
